Geminis are charming, intelligent, and dynamic. As a mutable sign, they are communicative and flexible in their thinking and actions. Theirs is the symbol of the twins which aptly describes their dualistic nature. In a short amount of time, their actions and moods can go in opposite directions, making it hard for those around them to adjust to and process what just happened. Because they take in fierce amounts of detailed information quickly, you may miss what made them change. Likely, they were thinking in one way and wanted to get something done fast. Then new sets of information came in to stall that progress, making them furious and slightly explosive for a minute. Since they are overstimulated at that moment, it’s best to use a calm voice and tell them to go to a different room and do something else or take a rest for a few minutes. They may stay mad and want to keep doing what they are doing because they are determined to solve the problem. Let them do that, but warn them that if they explode again, they must take a break from it. Like Aries, it’s best to teach your Gemini child from early on about taking deep breaths, counting to 10, doing yoga, and practicing meditation. It will serve them and others throughout their lives!

Because Geminis are most at home in their minds, feeling things through their heart or gut isn’t natural for them. They need a variety of verbal expressions of your love and pride. They will often ask for hugs and if you love them. This means that they don’t know what love feels like and need reassurance through hearing that you do and feeling that you do through hugs. Verbalize to your child all of the things you like about them. This will give the Gemini more grounding in the world and your family, which is not always easy for them to feel.

One of Gemini’s weakest traits is being unreliable, not sticking with tasks, or taking care of their physical space. To get your child to help clean up and be reliable for others, it’s helpful to start when they are toddlers. Turn cleaning up into a fun time by singing songs and creating games. Give them a challenge by setting a timer to see if they can get all of their toys away before it goes off. Maybe give them a sticker or points that count towards picking out a movie or a fun activity that they get to dream up doing.

Since Geminis are very charming and their hobby convinces people of things, they may easily convince parents and siblings to pick up the slack. If they are successful at this, it will harm them in the future when it is time to grow up and become an equal partner to someone. Geminis stay youthful their whole lives, but it’s not good for their self-esteem if they stay childish, too. So be consistent and loving with them. Let them know that they have to contribute to the home and family to earn extra fun stuff and take care of their own responsibilities. Be kind in your approach and unyielding in your discipline. You may find it’s exhausting listening to their pleas and bargaining. But keep calm, give them a journal to write their feelings in, and stick to letting them earn their privileges.

Geminis can easily hurt people’s feelings by blurting out whatever comes to their minds. They may leave old friends hanging because they have found new and more exciting friends. Make showing empathy a central theme in your home. Talk to your Gemini about how their words and actions affect other people. Tell them stories or read them books about people who were bullied or felt neglected. Encouraging them to think about other people’s trials and how they overcame them will give them a head start on having balanced and fulfilling relationships, which they crave.
